Social Marketing & Tips For Networking Novices

By Rob Sutter

You have just opened up your first page on Facebook, Twitter, or what have you and an entirely different world is at your fingertips. It's one where you may find yourself becoming a social butterfly, no matter what the situation may be. You may rekindle with old friends or make entirely new ones but the truth is that each page should be maintained so that no one will be turned away by it. If you want to make sure that your platform remains the same, take social marketing into account.

1. Do not put anything on a page that you want others to know about. One of the biggest rookie mistakes people can make on a page is dispensing more about themselves than they would have liked to admit. I can't begin to tell you how many cases I have seen spiral out of control, either because of a relationship being ended or friends getting into heated arguments in text form. It goes without saying that some matters should be kept away from the eyes of the public.

2. You never want to embellish on a job application, so why do it on this kind of page? This is especially true when it seems like employers, more and more, are starting to look at your pages to see what kind of personality your possess. Are you someone who is more reserved? Will you prove to be the kind of worker who will cause one disruption after another? Whether you realize it or not, this kind of page can prove to be the best indicator.

3. There are great firms such as fishbat which have proven that having these pages in specific types of work will be for the best. In fact, some jobs even require them, since they are perhaps some of the better ways of staying in contact with those in a particular company. This is seen as a more organized way of communication since messages and contacts can be kept better track of. For those invested in social marketing, this is the one of the better moves which can be made.

It goes without saying that social marketing is slowly expanding, whether you're talking about the business in general or various pages which people have signed up for by the millions. I think that they have been stellar in the past and for good reasons as well. They have done much for those looking for jobs as well as those simply looking to expand their social circles. However, without the knowledge of utilizing them properly, you may not be able to take advantage of them fully.
