Search Engine Optimization Services Can Help Your Company

By Deborah Criscillis

Everyone Needs to Think About Search Engine Optimization

The search engines can't include your site in their search results if they can't crawl and index your site. Simply creating a website and publishing it doesn't mean that it's being included in the bots' searches. A lot of site-building software has what is basically an "Off" switch to prevent bots from crawling unfinished pages. It isn't uncommon to fail to flip this switch, if you will, once the site is built to allow search engine bots to see it.

Even if access is allowed on your site, there are some things that can make it hard for bots to crawl your site. If your site is built with sloppy code, it makes it hard for bots to catalog your content. Everything about your site has to be set up to make it easier for bots to see and catalog the information on it, including the code its made out of, the text that is displayed, and the metadata associated with things like page names and images.

If you own a website that isn't ranking as well as you'd like, it might be due to one of the many less-obvious factors involved in good SEO. You might want to consider hiring a professional SEO company to help you devise a new plan. Running a successful website is about more than SEO, of course. You can usually find an SEO company that performs multiple services related to SEO, including site design and social media management services.

People may think of SEO as something that isn't really applicable to their site. We want to believe that offering a good product should be sufficient for success. SEO can feel like you're gaming the system, or trying to promote something that isn't able to succeed on its merits. SEO isn't about that, though, but rather about improving your site's ability to attract readers on its merits.

But, does organic page ranking really affect your site's popularity? The short answer is, "Yes." People still find a lot of the information they want through search engines. This includes local businesses that provide goods and services as well as information or entertainment. For most people, if a site doesn't appear in the first few pages, it may as well not exist. It doesn't matter how good your site is, and how useful the information, if the search engines don't return your site in the first few pages of results, no one will see your site.

So, how do you get your site into that coveted position? There are a lot of things that go into good SEO. First, you need to know which terms people are using to search for things like what you provide. There is a delicate balance between using these words and overusing them, so finding that balance is another important part of it. It isn't just about keywords, though.
