Why You Might Need A Reverse Phone Number Lookup For Free

By Jayne Rutledge

There are many reasons why someone might want to look up someone else's telephone number. When you know the name of the person but do not have their seven digits, this process is fairly simple. However, it is harder when you have the information switched; someone has been calling you, and you have no idea who it is. In this case, you will probably want to use a reverse phone number lookup for free.

These lookup services usually give you limited information about the caller, such as the area from which they called, and the nature of the number (i. E., business or residential). Sometimes they may provide the address. For more details, such as the name of the individual or the business, you can sign up with the service for a fee.

However, if you do not want to pay this fee and therefore cannot access the full information, you might be able to explore additional options. Some of those websites have a bulletin board where users post information about particular numbers. If not, you may be able to find this information on another website by simply Googling the number.

This kind of info is helpful in several different situations. For example:

1. Calls from debt collectors. If you have ever been pursued by a debt collector, you know how relentless they are with the phone calls. Often, it is not the original creditor calling you, but a scavenger debt collector that has bought the debt from the originator. They want to catch you off guard, because if you answer and acknowledge that you own the debt, the statute of limitations resets, allowing the debt collectors to pursue you for a longer period of time.

2. Locksmith scam. It sounds bizarre, but shady locksmiths are fairly common. They advertise their information, and you call them in an emergency. Then, they show up and try to charge you exorbitant prices after usually just breaking your locks. They continue to call and harass you for money long after you have refused to pay the ridiculous amount that you did not approve in the first place. Often, when you do figure out who is calling you, you find messages from other customers mentioning similar negative experiences. You may even find that the address listed is not a real address.

3. A former girlfriend or boyfriend. This person is not longer saved in your contacts. When they call, you have a hunch it might be them, but you don't know for sure. You don't want to answer without knowing, because you don't want an awkward, flustered conversation. If you can figure out for sure it your ex calling, you can either prepare in advance or avoid the call altogether.

A reverse phone number lookup for free would be useful in all of these scenarios. When you know the identity of the caller, you have the power to choose whether to ignore them, answer, or block them. You do not have to put up with harassment of any kind, on the phone or in person.
